UK regulators have removed 35 cryptocurrency apps from app stores for non-compliance with advertising laws. The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) said that cryptocurrency companies have failed to adhere to regulations introduced in October 2023, which require crypto firms to be registered with the FCA and only use approved, clear, fair and non-misleading ads. The FCA also called on tech companies to remove and block illegal promotions. The regulator issued 450 consumer alerts between 8 October and 31 December 2023. At the end of 2023, the FCA pledged “robust action” against firms violating advertising laws.
